Timely Tips on Managing Time

Ajit works for a major IT company in Bangalore. He has been feeling frustrated at work, as he realized that his work never gets over. He also feels tired and burned out after work and has no energy to interact with his family and friends. He complains to Akhilesh, his senior, about how his life is a virtual trap of endless work. On hearing this, Akhilesh advised his friend to work on self-love and learn to take some time for himself. He also shared some inputs on time management based on his recent reading. Here it goes!

Make use of interstices

Interstices are those in-between times when you wait for the bus to arrive, the friend to drop in, the doctor’s appointment to begin, and so on. One of the most famous writers of our times, Umber Eco in his interview with Mukul Kesavan, spoke at length about the empty spaces which exist between events. These spaces, which he called interstices if used effectively can help you tick off quite a few rudimentary tasks, thus, easing out your schedule. Eco credited his creative use of empty spaces or interstices for making him prolific at writing.

Hell Yeah or Hell No

Hell Yeah or Hell No is the title of the book by Derek Sivers on how to decide what’s worth doing. The writer emphasizes on the significance of finding out if you get a resounding yes or a resounding no to the question of investing time in any action.  A resounding yes to the question of time investment is an absolute green flag to go ahead, whereas an ambiguous answer is your guide to rethink investing your valuable time in any course of action.

Make Time

Make Time is one of the most well-known books written on time management. It is written by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky. The book introduces concepts of Busy Bandwagons and Infinity Pools to its readers.  Busy Bandwagons allude to the relentless urgency wherein everything is to be done now, of our times. Infinity pools, on the other hand, refer to various apps/devices that continuously and relentlessly occupy our attention span, leaving us with no time for ourselves. To make time to accomplish our goals, writers outline a simple 4-pronged approach. They ask you to start the day with a daily highlight, which is your chief goal/ task to accomplish for the day. They then advise you to pursue your highlighted task with relentless laser focus. Towards the end of the day, you have to take time to reflect on the status of the task accomplished or not. Thereafter, you have to spend some time energizing yourself with a break or a refreshing change of action.

Do you think that the tips shared by Akhilesh are of any use? Will they help our friend Ajit make his life more meaningful? Let’s wait and watch!
