The Struggle of Self Love

Self-love is something that we all preach. But do we practice it? That’s something we should ponder upon. If you think this article is a mental health advisory, no it’s not. I’m not going to make you believe that you are a perfect human being,?and you deserve everything in the world either. Let’s face it! We all are prone to making mistakes and there’s no need of any fragile ego to accept that! We do not have to love ourselves only when we do something great. We do not?have to love ourselves only when we make someone proud. We do not have to love ourselves only when we are in the top number one position.

Self-love is that pat on the back that you give yourself when you tried your best but couldn’t reach that goal. It is the courage that took you to face your fear. It is the long nap that makes you feel better when you realize the whole world is ahead of you. It is the strength that makes you feel vulnerable in front of that loved one of yours. But that doesn’t mean you should have a ‘go-to person’ every time. You are enough! You should be your own motivator.

The moment you start loving yourself, you will stop feeling the need to have someone to validate each of your move. There could have been a time when you would be sitting with a group of people and still feel lonely. You’d feel like your existence didn’t matter to them. Or perhaps, you could be that person that makes the other one feel left out. It’s always good to introspect. You do not want to be that way if you don’t want to be treated that way. So, to those people that feel like your presence doesn’t matter to them, you must love yourself enough to think if it is worthy enough to stay there.

Self-love does mean, loving the way you are. But it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t change yourself for good. Transitioning is a part of self-love. On the contrary, it doesn’t mean you have to keep changing yourself according to the people that you come across in your life. You don’t always have to get along to be accepted by others. You should be accepted by ‘yourself’ first! No matter how many people come and go, if you got yourself, there’s nothing to worry about.

If you want to watch your favourite movie but you got nobody to accompany you, so what? Take yourself out and enjoy it with a tub of popcorn! If you want to go to that restaurant, you’ve always wanted to, then dress yourself up and hop in! Enjoy yourself! If you want to roam around in your bicycle while the whole world is racing in their cars and motor bikes? Just do it!!! Do anything that you want to do even though it is not cool enough for the world! End of the day, it’s all about how you feel!??No one cares what you feel. Then why do you want to know how other’s feel about you?

To love yourself enough is tough but isn’t it so much better than all the overthinking we do because we fear we are not good enough? To spend time with yourself and prioritizing yourself is not being selfish. It’s called living your life!
