Education – Embracing the New normal Post-COVID

This pandemic situation is an indication of ever-changing times and human behaviour. It is also an occurrence that has given rise to push to businesses' digitization, especially in the education sector.

What many edupreneurs and technocrats have been predicting for long-time is now happening.

Over two decades, educational enthusiasts have foreshadowed that technology will become a significant middleman of teaching-learning processes.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of students worldwide have been evicted from their university spaces, and professors are circumscribed to their homes.

By bringing online education into the classrooms, offers student a powerful learning experience. There is also a significant possibility of corporate houses, technology firms, and educational institutions working much more closely together.

Important methods in which education will change in the post-COVID-19 period:

Online learning will become a reality

In digital learning, the classroom will be accompanied by online coursework. The digitized content must be high in terms of quality and enjoyable to learn. The virtual learning method will keep students engaged all the time.

By implementing the online learning system, students will have sufficient time to assimilate information.

Universities need to work together with such organizations for their digital pivots to be successful.

Training of teachers will be qualitatively different

Teachers have to be fine-tuned for online teaching. When teachers are comfortable with technology, they can deliver their knowledge seamlessly. Finally, through these online teaching, teachers will be empowered to conduct an impactful lecture than before.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the personalized learning experience

Teachers must make use of a technology that offers a great learning experience for all children. However, a blended approach in learning will help all types of students. They have the possibility to engage with various types of content such as video, audio, presentations, thereby increasing the proficiency to personalize learning.

Refinement of the teacher’s role

The teacher and the textbook get swapped by these digital resources of learning. The primary objective of teaching is to help children develop critical thinking skills, acquire problem-solving skills, decision making skills, which will benefit both students and society.

A teacher's role from that of a 'knowledge-giver' will gradually move to one of a 'facilitator' in the development of learners and helping them become lifelong learners. [1]

Reduce time through technology

Teacher's work remains one of the most overloaded and underrated. At present, the evolution of technology in education is more attractive and more appealing in addressing the time consumption issues.

Simplifying the stressful conditions like paper-setting, evaluating, and grading through technology can reduce intense teacher's workload. Such things can leave a significant time frame for better tutoring and face-to-face communication between students and teachers.

Technology helps teachers to focus effectively on teaching and on course improvement.

Physical engagement of students

Physical interaction among students and teachers will be an engaging one. Educators must create a new model to bring interactivity and collaboration in their e-learning modules.

Teaching life skills needed for the future

In today’s rapidly changing environment, young people need resilience and adaptability. Both skills are observed to be crucial elements during this pandemic situation. The youth can focus on some of the essential skills such as communication, creativity, and collaboration alongside empathy and emotional intelligence. Such elements will break the barriers when working in cross-cultural environments. These elements will also enable effective teamwork.

In conclusion, schools and educationists today need to make every endeavour in reducing the current situation's impact on young people's minds. It is time for them to restructure the system while embracing the new normal and exploring other practical options to deliver education to remain relevant, and nurture the students and prepare them for the future.
