It is a dream of every athlete to compete and win a gold medal in a sports meet. The other day I was watching the Rio Olympics, and I heard Ms. Saakshi who won a Bronze medal in wrestling say – “I have persevered 12 years to win a medal in the Olympics.” What a feat I thought, I felt proud of her achievement, I felt great to see her excitement about winning a medal at an International stage. I am sure most of you will feel the same way as I did. A day later during a conversation with my brother, I asked, why did we win so less medals? Aren’t we trying enough? Well, I am to blame myself also, I never kept sports in my mind, let alone winning a medal in any sports competition.
He said, look at the top 10 countries who have won gold, they all are developed economies, one day when we become developed economy like them, we too will win several Gold medals in the Olympics. As I drove the car towards the office, I thought, how can I ever dream of contributing an Olympic gold medal to my country? I am old, out of shape and don’t feel fit enough to even make a beginning! As I maneuvered my car through busy roads, a thought crossed my mind, “I can win Gold in the Olympics, I am already competing in the Olympics of the company’s survival in a competitive Global marketplace. It is a Global event; every country is fighting hard to win significant business market share in its segment.
