"A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge® (PMBOK® Guide)" had been released by Project Management Institute (PMI®) by December 2012.

The PMBOK® Guide is a standard on project management that is issued by PMI® after every four tofive years period. The existing PMBOK® 4th Edition was released in December 2008.

Probably, the most important difference between the 4th and 5th editions of the edition is the adding, and removal of several processes. Furthermore, the flow charts have been made simpler for all the readers.

The biggest change is that PMI introduced 7 new processes, one new knowledge area "Project Stakeholder Management", and removed 2 processes "Manage Stakeholder Expectations, Report Performance ", so now we have 47 processes and 10 knowledge areas, below are the new changes:

The new Knowledge Area "Project Stakeholder Management", has four processes:

  • Identify Stakeholde rs (r emoved from the communication management Knowledge Area)

  • Plan Stakeholder Management

  • Manage Stakeholder Engagement

  • Control Stakeholder Engagement

Project Stakeholder Management Knowledge Area increases the focus on identifying and engaging stakeholders.

Project Communications Management Knowledge Area had been changed in such a way that Identify Stakeholders process moved to Stakeholder Knowledge Area and now has three processes:

  • Manage Communication (kept from the 4th edition)

  • Control Communication (New

PMBOK® 4th edition processes Manage Stakeholder Expectations and Report Performance were removed. The additional four planning processes have been added to reinforce the concept that each major Knowledge Area has a planning processes focusing on how that area will be planned and executed.
